R U I N S The Thief King was the ancient half of Ryo Bakura. Despite this, he despised Pharaoh Atem because he believes Atem's father, Akhenamkhanen, ordered the massacre of Kul Elna to create the Millennium Items. At that time, he was only a child and forced to watch as his family and friends were killed and their bodily components used to create the seven Millennium Items. (In the English version, the villagers souls were sealed away. But it is still implied that they are killed) However, Bakura possesed an extremely powerful Ka: "Diabound", which is able to learn the abilities of the monsters it destroys. Bakura and Atem had a few clashes and managed to obtain all 7 Millennium Items. Once placed back in the Millennium Stone, Bakura sacrificed himself to summon Zorc Necrophades. However, what Bakura didn't know was that Akhenamkanen, Atem's father, had no idea that the village needed to be burnt and the sacrifices were required to create the items and probably would've never approved of it, and that it was originally Akhenaden's idea. So, theoretically, all the hate that Bakura had towards Atem and Akhenamkanen, was hate he should've been putting on Akhenaden. Although Bakura antagonized Atem, he did make some good points as to how is anger was well deserved. Even Atem was intrigued by what Bakura said, since he has still forgotten his memory:

The Thief King was the ancient half of Ryo Bakura. Despite this, he despised Pharaoh Atem because he believes Atem's father, Akhenamkhanen, ordered the massacre of Kul Elna to create the Millennium Items. At that time, he was only a child and forced to watch as his family and friends were killed and their bodily components used to create the seven Millennium Items. (In the English version, the villagers souls were sealed away. But it is still implied that they are killed) However, Bakura possesed an extremely powerful Ka: "Diabound", which is able to learn the abilities of the monsters it destroys. Bakura and Atem had a few clashes and managed to obtain all 7 Millennium Items. Once placed back in the Millennium Stone, Bakura sacrificed himself to summon Zorc Necrophades. However, what Bakura didn't know was that Akhenamkanen, Atem's father, had no idea that the village needed to be burnt and the sacrifices were required to create the items and probably would've never approved of it, and that it was originally Akhenaden's idea. So, theoretically, all the hate that Bakura had towards Atem and Akhenamkanen, was hate he should've been putting on Akhenaden. Although Bakura antagonized Atem, he did make some good points as to how is anger was well deserved. Even Atem was intrigued by what Bakura said, since he has still forgotten his memory:
Quotes 1. "So you say! But I disagree! He was a tyrant!" 2. "Forgive me for not respecting a kingdom that destroyed my home! 3. "Believe me, it was a day I'll never forget. I watched in horror as my friends and family were being slaughtered to faster the items." 4. "Evil-doer? What do you think you are? The items were created to react to the inner vices within its holder! So the fact that each one of you holds a Millenium Item makes each and every one of you an evil-doer not unlike your so-called keeper of the peace, King Akhenamkhanen! Your king wanted power, that's why he created the items so he could rule the entire world! The secret lies in the village of Kul Elna."
