Met een soepele sprong landde de slanke, jonge kat op een omgevallen boomstam. Er lag een laagje sneeuw op, dat onder zijn poten vandaan gleed naar de grond. Vulture keek er in de gauwigheid even naartoe voor zijn ogen schuw naar een opvliegende vogel gingen. De kale bomen om hem heen leken zo hetzelfde .. Ontmoedigd zag hij zijn pootafdrukken van eerder voor hem, dieper het bos in lopen. Nu wist hij het zeker. Hij liep in cirkels. Boven hem was de lucht asgrauw en verried het een aankomende sneeuwbui. Inmiddels had de kou grip op hem gevat en stond hij rillend op zijn poten. Een halve dag geleden was hij nog ShadowClan, en nu was hij rogue. De jonge kater wist niet precies waar hij was, maar wel dat er al een heel eind tussen hem en zijn oude territorium was ontstaan. Hij liet zich van de boomstronk afvallen en landde sober op zijn vier poten. Zoekend keek hij om zich heen met een trieste uitdrukking op zijn gelaat. De bomen waren zo kaal als een pasgeboren muis, er zat geen blaadje aan. Wat als resultaat gaf dat alles er hetzelfde uit zag .. en zodra de eerste sneeuwvlokjes van de dag gingen vallen verdwenen zijn pootafdrukken. Lichtelijk in paniek haalde hij diep adem om zichzelf te kalmeren en begon hij te lopen. Dit maal sloeg hij links af, de kant op waar zijn vele pootstappen hem niet naartoe hadden gedragen.
